(He even looks a little like a human-disguise version of Megamind, to me, too–the high cheekbones and long chin with the little beard, and even the shape of his hair, which reminds me of the shape of Megamind’s head!)
Complete series of the process of making these ponies, including cape and no cape versions, since I kind of put a lot of effort into the details of Megamind and Metro Man’s costumes. The TASSELS and the SPIKES-!
I had some ideas on what their MLP style names might be, though Roxanne’s was the only one I really settled on, due to the meaning behind her real name. Brilliant Dawn, anyone?
I love that you did different versions of them, with them wearing different clothes; it makes them seem–actually, it reminds me really wonderfully of the My Little Pony figurine toys I had when I was little, that you could dress up in different clothes!
They’re all adorable, too, and I’m really impressed with how much of the characters’ personalities come through in their pony forms; they look like they belong in a MLP universe, but they also all still look like themselves.
These are seriously so, so wonderful and fun; I’m so happy you made these and shared them with us! ❤
SO IM WATCHING MEGAMIND AND BERNARD IS THE MOST UNDERRATED CHARACTER
LIKE LOOK AT HIM
Fanon: Bernard isn’t just sulky and sarcastic. He’s in mourning. He was a huge Metro Man fanboy and the loss of his hero has just taken all the spirit out of him. Given that all the banks are shut down, he might be working without pay just as an expression of his feelings.
His ambition has also taken a hit. He probably expected to have a long career at a growing institute as Metro Man’s career stretched on into the future. Instead he’s one of the caretakers of a memorial. He might be employable in another city but his whole identity is bound up with being an expert on Metro Man and Megamind. So he keeps his lonely vigil, honoring the hero’s memory in the way he is best qualified to do, and resenting members of the public like Roxanne who come into the museum and interrupt his private expression of loyalty and sorrow.
Finished coloring the Mega-Ponies and started sketching out their costumes (as well as Minion in his steampunk horse body).
I’m actually really REALLY happy with how the water in Minion’s dome turned out, I kind of went overboard on detail because of it but it makes me super happy.
For peeps wondering, yes, Megamind does have a prosthetic horn, he made it for more precision inventing, but his long tail is prehensile and extremely dexterous, allowing him to use it almost like a mittened hand. I gave Roxanne some buckskin/mustang style markings so she’d look a bit more spunky and less bubblegum, and Metro Man is MUSCLE HORSE. It was so hard drawing him muscle-y without going overboard…
Minion’s cutie-mark wasn’t given to him by magic, Megamind made it for him as a gift so Minion wouldn’t feel like the odd-pony out. If the detail looks a little of, it’s supposed to be a swirl of pink icing coming out of a piping tip in the shape of an M as well as an almost heart, because Minion is a sweetie of many talents.
!!! MEGAMIND’S CLOVEN HOOVES!!
I love that he has cloven hooves, because of course that would be something that would instantly seem alien to horses! I love, too, that his proportions are different than theirs, with his long thin neck and legs and his bony hindquarters. And his TAIL. PREHENSILE TAIL I LOVE IT. Bald prehensile tail, and no mane! He’s so delightfully alien! And he made a prosthetic horn for inventing! Spikes, yes!! He’s such a pretty blue!
I love that you’ve included Roxanne’s beauty mark, and I love how short you’ve made not just her mane, but also her tail.
Minion’s body is so great! It reminds me a bit of a warhorse, with the armor plates on his back and his tail shaped like it’s been trimmed short and wrapped. A really good pony version of Minion’s robot body!
I like how heavy and muscular you’ve drawn Metro Man, and the way his tail and mane flow! Very fitting for his character, and you’ve gotten his smile just right! And he’s
And I really love all of their cutie marks! They really fit their personalities, and I love that Megamind made one for Minion so that he wouldn’t feel left out!
AHHHH I CAN’T TELL YOU HOW FREAKING ECSTATIC I AM THAT YOU LIKE MY INTERPRETATIONS AHHHH!!!
I literally have the hugest freaking smile on my face, flailing like an absolute goober and making squeaky noises. I really super admire your writing and your inventiveness as a creator, so seeing that you enjoy my creations makes me happier than a cat in nip. And you noticed the beauty mark! I wasn’t even sure anyone would see it, it ended up so small!!
( @lygrim, for megamind to wear in the feudal high fantasy au? )
Nice
Definitely takes what I had envisioned in a new direction. It occurs to me that I’ll have to draw him a wardrobe now. Roxanne too. Love the geometrics, at first I thought they were a map of molecular structures. Love the stars and the lunar cycle on his sleeve too that’s really neat and ties in to parts of the story that hAVEN’T BEEN SHARED YET. Stop it with the improbable educated guesses and incidental parallels, Set, really.
!!! Ahhhh that’s so exciting!! I’d love to see anything you do for their wardrobes! I really love the Feudal High Fantasy AU! ❤
(Is it set in historical feudal Japan specifically, or is it like–a fantasy place/time that’s based on feudal Japan?)
Lol neither actually, and I hope you won’t be too disappointed with me.
Although now that you’ve asked the question I’m reconsidering geographical lines as they pertain to the level of diversity in my story because honestly I was stuck with the idea that most of the main characters we see in the movie are, in fact, white so I felt obligated to stick with ‘Caucasian’ spaces, but I’m realizing now that as it is a fantasy and I can do whatever the fuck I want, including adding fucking trolls and magic so why can’t I have more widely spread ethnic diversity, I can dammit and I will Goddamit so there.
so continue with the knowledge that I’ve only just reached that understanding and am looking forward to gleefully screwing my original shape of the world and building fresh.
The setting of the story is (was) more medieval European. My concept was that Megamind has been systematically moving to, living with, and learning about different regions of humanity, and he’s been through several. (So far his mountain neighboring Roxanne’s town is his least favorite.) Rather than having the cultural experience and presentation of an ‘alien’ be from only one place, I wanted to play with the idea that Megamind would want to move through them once he was indepedent, adopting and piecing together a more complete philosophy based on the premises of a species not his own and doing so by touring different populations. (And shaping his magic in the same way.)
There that is entirely more than I was wishing to share but once again you’ve clairification things for me with an idle question, so thanks for that.
THIS IS SO EXCITING!! I really love the feudal high fantasy AU, and I’m so glad that my question gave you such ideas for it!! ❤ ❤ ❤
people have been illegally dumping their old boats all around abandoned neighborhoods in detroit so this one newscaster on the local news station has been collecting them and finding out who the owners are by looking up the ID numbers on the boats and then she puts them on a flatbed truck and she brings them back to their owners wearing a fucking captain’s hat and she knocks on their doors and goes “hey we found your boat!”
