I drew fan art for @setepenre-set’s Megamind fanfic / Mermaid AU Dangerous Currents. I, uh, know it’s a little late but! I didn’t have an account when other people were doing it so it’s now or never. I only had my kindle fire to take pictures so the quality is nonexistent,  but… I tried.

Ohhhhh this is so entirely gorgeous. The muscles and the collar bones are beautifully drawn, and I love the pose–leaning back like that, with his lovely tail so gracefully curled. It looks so natural, especially with the way his left hand is on the outside of his tail. That detail really emphasizes that the tail is part of his body. And the way the tail blends into his upper body so smoothly emphasizes that as well.

And I really like the way you drew the mark on his chin, the one that looks a bit like his canon goatee but isn’t–the mark, as you’ve drawn it: a narrow line without the outwards flare at the bottom that his canon goatee has–it really does look more like a skin marking here, rather than facial hair!

He’s definitely a freshwater fish; his species is indigenous to the Great Lakes, and the freshwater fin frills are really visually pleasing and fit his body so well! I love how snakelike he looks; it fits in so well with his snakelike appearance and movement in the fic itself. The gills, too, are very natural looking, and that neck frill! ahhh the neck frill! So beautiful!

The whole thing is beautiful, and I absolutely love it! Thank you so much for drawing it for me; it made me really happy! ❤ ❤ ❤

Oh! Oh, thank you so very very much! That really means a lot to me, a lot of people including family say my art is weird and freakish, but! A person I admire! Likes it! 

And you noticed little things I worked so hard on! Like the collarbones and the frill! Oh, I am melting. 

It doesn’t look weird or freakish at all; it’s very lovely and natural looking–even just his arms, which are so difficult for me, personally, to draw correctly, but these look so effortlessly right. And his torso, with the muscles and the way it leads into his tail! It just looks really correct. 

Also your lines look so smooth and confident, and the shading is so beautiful and subtle!

I think its the mini short made for a megamind ride over in Malaysia. It was available online for a bit but since, the source has been deleted. Can’t find it anywhere.

It’s actually the Button of Doom! A short movie. I usually find it on kisscartoon, but that’s become a sketchy site.

I’ve seen Button of Doom on YouTube! It should probably still be there, last I checked….

The Button of Doom is definitely a thing, but there was a short advertising the ride in Malaysia, too—Megamind talks to the camera directly about wanting to use the ride to find a new nemesis worthy of him, and I remember him tapping that microphone thing that sometimes sits atop the ⚡️M⚡️ logo on his cape clasp, wondering if it’s on. I think one of the lines was “greetings citizens! Megamind here!”

You’re right that Megamind and Lord Business would be on opposite sides; Evil with a capital E is one thing–wanting to keep the entire world in a state of static, permanent ‘perfection’ is very much another thing.

Hmmm maybe Lord Business could be Lord Scott? And so Metro Man would be his son, who is engaged in helping his father make their world ‘perfect’–although Wayne might not know exactly what his father is up to…

So i had a thought: why is megamind the only one who escaped the planet? why was he the one that was saved? Well my thought is that maybe he is some form of royalty, maybe even going as far as prince. This seems like something that people may have picked up on so im not sure if its been said before but anyway let me know what you think <3

I think there might be a fic like that on FFN, but I’m not sure–it is an interesting thought! 

I feel like it’s more likely to be true of Metro Man than Megamind, as Metro Man’s pod is golden and shining and sleek, while Megamind’s pod looks, to me, as if it’s been thrown together quickly from bits and pieces. Metro Man’s pod looks like an official kind of construction, while Megamind’s looks like something his parents built by themselves.

And I tend to prefer the idea of Megamind coming from a more ordinary family; I think because I like thinking his extraordinary nature is all his own, rather than due to any inherited class distinction. Especially with the ‘anyone can be a hero’ theme of the movie. And my conception of the government on M’ega is elected officials, rather than a monarchy or aristocracy.
