The real writer experience is standing in the shower and coming up with the most authentic dialogue with perfect phrasing and raw emotion in your head, then stepping out and drying your hair, putting on some clean pajamas and opening a word document to write down all your perfect ideas only to realize everything has evaporated.

So, who else joined tumblr for the first time because of Megamind?

No one? Just me?

That’s the reason I joined tumblr! I was involved with the Megamind fandom on Livejournal, then moved over here.

I joined Tumblr solely because of Megamind! In fact, it’s arguably my first jump into social media since I’ve stayed away from the likes of Facebook for my own personal reasons for years now. I’m still getting a feel for the place, but I’m glad I signed up. It’s a lot more accommodating here and the fandom is just amazing.

I can say with 100% honesty that the sole reason I am here is because of @setepenre-set and by extension the current Megamind fandom.

Thank you all for the creativity and love here!

!!! ❤ ❤ ❤ That’s such a lovely thing to hear! Especially since I actually joined tumblr because of Megamind, too! ❤

This semester I had to illustrate a short piece of writing for a design class – so I chose one of my favorite fanfictions – Hearts and their Consumption by @setepenre-set ! Their charming prose really kept me going even when finals were happening and it seemed like I’d be swept away by the amount of work before me.

If you like Howl’s Moving Castle – the book or movie – give their piece a read.

Thanks, setepenre-set!!

These are so very beautiful; I am so very happy that you used my story for your project! And I’m so glad you shared them with me; thank you so much!

These really look like illustrations from a fairytale book–the graceful drama of the poses, the colors you chose, the shape of the pink text boxes! And the watercolor effect! Did you use actual watercolors, or did you get that effect with markers? Either way, I am extremely impressed!

And you picked such good points in the story to illustrate; the illustration points fall in natural intervals throughout the text, and they’re all at important parts in the story.

Oh my GOODNESS, you’ve critiqued my pieces more than my class did! I super appreciate it; it’s always nice to hear the Reasons you did something – sometimes I was just putting things down and subconsciously Meant it, like with the design of the teacup. Before the blue squiggles, the cup felt bare, and after, it felt better – because i was trying to add visual interest and verticality to the piece. But I didn’t do it consciously! I guess that’s what a couple years in an Illustration program does.

I’m so delighted you got everything I intended – the subtle symbolism of color in the hearts, the sharp faeness of Howl, the soft Sophie (because I myself am a soft lady, and love soft ladies as a result, but I also think her hardwearing and determined soul deserves a sturdy body) – I’m really happy all of that’s come through. (Did you notice Howl and Sophie have the same poses in the second and second-to-last pieces? That was deliberate.)

I did use watercolor! It was brushed watercolor and Black Cat India ink in a dip pen. I really like how watercolor handles, but the ink gives a nice definition and crispness.

!!! oooh I hadn’t noticed that they have the same poses in the second and second-to-last pieces! But now that you pointed it out, I totally see it, and it’s really satisfying–they’re the same positions, but they have different feelings behind each of them, as Howl is, even in his very real hunger, posing deliberately, while Sophie is not focused on how she looks at all.

I also like that you included Howl in the second-to-last piece, lying with his head in Sophie’s lap. Since that one is an echo of his pose in the second piece, we get to see how he’s changed–dark hair, dark circles beneath his eyes, unconscious and ill and definitely not posing anymore. The contrast there really gives the audience a sense of how much he’s changed throughout the story!

  • Battle of the century
  • Megamind uses 82 step plan […]

One of those steps is “get donuts,” and three spaced out later are “Eat donuts.”

He realized that if he didn’t specifically plan on eating during his plans, he would get too caught up in the project and starve. Putting food-chain and eating food into the plan is actually very wise.
