Hi!! I just finished binge reading Old, New, Borrowed and Blue and I adore it so far. I’m just wondering if you have a update schedule that you stick to for it, or if it’s updated randomly? I’m not trying to rush you or anything like that. I’m just curious. I can’t wait to read more!

“Story Prompt: I’m having an Alien’s Baby!” Two different tabloids are posting stories about pregnant women, one who swears hers is Metro Man’s, the other Megamind’s. Of course, the world wants Roxanne’s reaction… But she’s too busy trying to process exactly what her reaction IS.

Okay, so, due to me getting confused about pronouns, I read this prompt as “two tabloids are doing stories about pregnant women, both tabloids claiming that Roxanne is one of the ‘pregnant women’–one tabloid claims that Roxanne’s baby is Metro Man’s, the other tabloid claims that it’s Megamind’s.”

It was only after writing something with that prompt in mind that I went back and realized you meant that there were two pregnant women who were not Roxanne–one woman claims in one tabloid that her baby is Metro Man’s; the other woman claims in another tabloid that her baby is Megamind’s.

SO UH. this prompt kind of went in a direction different from what you meant…and there’s no actual pregnancy, just pregnancy rumors, because pregnancy, especially unplanned pregnancy, squicks me, but, um. for what it’s worth, I’m going to be posting the thing I wrote for it in a minute?? hopefully you will still be interested.

All your tags on the damned lava has me going “SET NO” every time I see them

HEH I also have the urge to eat seafoam–seafoam and lava both look so pretty and so delicious! 

(The seafoam urge I have indulged in before, and it is not delicious.)

@displacerghost and I were talking about my wanting to eat lava/seafoam, and got to talking about what kind of candy they would have on M’ega. 

Lava candy! Spicy, sweet, looks like lava, and when you break it in half, it actually heats up and flows slowly like lava.

And seafood candy (not the same thing as the candy people on earth call ‘seafoam candy’). It would look like seafoam and be very sweet, very creamy, very light–like divinity candy, only even more airy.

Idk if you’ve touched on this in the past, as i am a new follower, so feel free to ignore this if it’s redundant. But i think it’s very interesting that, early in the film, Roxanne’s signature color is red and that’s what she usually wears. Halfway through the movie on her date with “Bernard,” she wears a purple dress. And then at the very end, she’s wearing almost the exact same dress but it’s BLUE. Like. She wanted them to match. To tell the world she’s on his side. What a dork.

(I think there is another post around somewhere about the color symbolism of her clothing, but I don’t think it’s one of mine?)

But yes! ISN’T SHE ADORABLE?! I really also love that she’s wearing red in the beginning–not white, like Metro Man, or like a damsel would usually wear. Red. Immediate visual cue that Roxanne is her own, vivid person. And it contrasts with Megamind’s blue uniform in a really interesting, strong way, echoing how she challenges him throughout the kidnapping sequence. (and yet the accents on the red dress are black, serving to unite the two of them, too)

And it’s so satisfying in the end, when she’s wearing blue! Up on the stage with Megamind! In front of everyone! And you know she had to have been thinking about that when she chose that dress to wear.

I also love that her blue dress is the same style as the purple dress–she wore the purple one on their disastrous date, so wearing the blue version of the same dress helps to unite the two scenes, as well as symbolize the way their romantic relationship has healed and progressed.

(Also! the slow change of Roxanne’s clothing to blue in the movie is what inspired her doing the same thing in Code: Safeword!)

I like the little continuity nods throughout your works, where a fic references events in a different fic. It makes for a feeling of linkage, even if the two aren’t part of a series. It’s like youve created a specific megamind universe that all the fics take place in and are Aus of each other.

That is really good to hear; thank you for telling me! And thats how I think of it, too–that all of my stories exist as AUs of each other. I have so much fun doing it, so I’m very glad to hear that you enjoy it, too! ❤

Set I love you and I love your writing!! I have a question for you: Do you think you will ever do any more writing for the Temptress AU? I love love love your version of Roxanne for that and would be so happy to see more of her, especially either exploring her as a converted superhero or more of her supervillain battles with Megamind. Also, anything you write with the brainbots is always brilliant too.

I really think I will end up writing more for the Temptress AU; it’s very dear to me, and I’m definitely not ready to let it go. I really love Temptress Roxanne, too. My poor girl; she deserves so much happiness and love!

And I’m actually working on a short fic that involves the brainbots right now; I’m hoping it will be ready to post, soon!
