Blood of My Enemies

Temptress Roxanne

Flat out, this is my FAVORITE of your sketchy style images this far (even moreso than the other version). The mood, the proportions, the use of contrast and shadow to IMPLY her emotions despite her face being obscured with this background…… This is just powerful and amazing. I especially like how the darker background really emphasizes the dark red linework, blurring the reality of the line on the stage left of her face so it can equally be the “blood of her enemies” or her tears (the “blood of her ravaged heart,” perhaps?)

Thank you so much! I’m really proud of how this one turned out, so I really appreciate you saying that!

I’m definitely pleased that you noticed the ‘tears or blood’ aspect; that was just what I was trying to do–the Temptress is Roxanne’s way of obscuring the reality of herself, so I wanted the piece to reflect that uncertainty, and the mix of sorrow and anger that is the Temptress.

(also, if you do decide to read it as blood–it could either be someone else’s blood that has splattered onto her face and then dripped down…or it could be her own blood, from a cut on her cheekbone. Roxanne does have enemies. But she’s also her own enemy.)
