You may recall me talking about how I was working on a script for a musical theatre version of Megamind.
I am VERY PLEASED to announce that the script is COMPLETE and that it is going to be UNVEILED at Mega Camp, where we will be doing a READING of it!! The reading is happening Sunday night at 7:30pm!
Now, in order to make the reading as enjoyable as possible, I need your help!
During the reading, I need volunteers to help by playing the parts. A script reading is much more informal than an actual performance, so there’s no need to be nervous; the emphasis here is on having fun. It’s going to be more like a game rather than a show.
Each participant will get a script, and they will read their lines from the script during the reading as they act out their parts. So there’s no need to worry about memorization. The songs, too, are very simple; I wrote them so that they are easy to sing.
There are lots of parts–all of the characters from canon, plus some characters from the Doom Syndicate: Hot Flash, Lady Doppler, Psycho Delic, and Destruction Worker. Not to mention the brainbots and the random citizens!
I’m going to post all of the songs, so that you all can hear them ahead of time–everyone is invited to sing along with the chorus parts.
Again, do not feel worried about having any experience with acting, or about whether you’re “good” at singing–this is all about having fun! And if you’re shy, there is always a place for you as a citizen or in the brainbot swarm!
I’m going to be playing Megamind, but all of the other parts are open.
If you are interested in playing, please let me know, and I will send you the script, so that you can read it ahead of time and feel more comfortable.
I am really proud of this script, and I am so excited to share the musical theatre version of Megamind with you all!
So as much fun as we’re going to have at camp, we also have a couple trips planned to attractions close to camp. Each of these will cost you a little extra money on top of your camp fee, but we think they are worth it! So where are we going you may ask?
Bristol Renaissance Faire
Welcome to one of the biggest Renaissance Faires in the US! There are dozens of shows through the day including music, comedy, and jousting, as well as village worth of shops including garb, food, alcohol, jewelry, and all sorts of fascinating shiny things. Costumes are highly encouraged!
You will be responsible for your own admission fee and the costs of any food and souvenirs.
Whose up for a little drinking? This Wisconsin establishment creates apple and pear based wines, ciders, perry, brandy and whiskey!
They offer tastings for $5 a person. You’re responsible for the cost of any additional liquor you may buy.
Adrian’s Frozen Custard
No, its not frozen pudding. Frozen Custard is a creamier cousin to ice cream and a regional food unique to Wisconsin. So of course I can’t have y’all come here without trying some for yourself! And every good Wisconsin girl knows that the best frozen custard comes from rando mom & pop places in little towns just like Adrian’s. You will be responsible for the cost of your own cone.
Hope you guys are ready!

EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
!!! AAAAHHHH I AM SO EXCITED!!
OKAY SO–

You have two weeks left to register folks! All registrations and deposits must be received by July 1st to guarantee your spot at camp!!
But for now, lets answer some real questions from real campers……
Q:
How long do we get in the ball pit?
A: 1 extra hour. Beyond that we promise nothing.
So basically it will be just like Dash only like without the fiscal mismanagement and with the outdoors and stuff. Yeah.
PS: My basement is filling up with balls
Q:
What is the total expected attendance?
A: We were originally hoping for at least 20, and we have 25 registered so far. There are 33 beds and we can sleep 38 people in them if we put two in all the doubles. So basically we have 12 spots left if we squish people in, 7 spots if we give people a bit of space to actually move.
Q: Are you doing this again next year/ever?
Not next year for sure, unless someone else wants to take on Camp Director duties. I mean, just for context our last Megamind fandom meetup was in 2014 and this one is in 2018. So who knows what we will be doing in four years? Sure as hell not me.
So if you’re holding off on going cuz you think you can go next year….. don’t do that. Who knows if this will ever happen again.
So ever since we started planning this little endeavor, one question has haunted us above all others…..
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO EAT FOR FOUR DAYS?????
Well today your answer arrives.
The Kitchen Committee has put together a menu for camp that we hope will be nutritious and delicious, leaning heavily on American summer classics and keeping costs down.
We’re also being as careful as possible to accommodate people’s dietary restrictions, particularly allergies and gluten issues. Everyone who registers is asked about dietary issues, and we working our recipes and menus around them. Additionally, @thatfilthyanimal has taken on the special role of Kitchen Bitch, promising to wage war against food contamination and general unmixy things for both the planning and the duration of camp itself.
So that all said, we’re excited to be sharing with you what we will be eating!!!
